Sophia M. Chang, New AssociateLim, Ruger and Kim | Lim, Ruger and Kim

Sophia Mei-ling Chang recently joined Lim Ruger as an associate in the transactional group, focusing her practice on corporate and commercial transactions.  Prior to joining Lim Ruger, Sophia served as an inaugural law clerk to the Hon. Dolly M. Gee of the Central District of California, the first Chinese American woman to serve as an Article III judge.  She also previously practiced as an associate in the mergers and acquisitions group at Jones Day.

Sophia is also a community activist and has a deep commitment to public service.  In 2009, she was appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles to serve as a Commissioner for the West Los Angeles Area Planning Commission.  In 2011, she co-founded Dancing Classrooms Los Angeles, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization aimed at promoting positive youth development, strengthening schools, and bringing diverse communities together through the practice of social dance.  Sophia continues to serve as President and Executive Director for Dancing Classrooms Los Angeles.

Sophia is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Committee on Diversity in the Profession and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association.  She previously served as a Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for the Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center, a member of the California State Bar Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution, a member of the Associates’ Board for the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, and as a District Chair for the UCLA Alumni Bunche Scholarships.

Sophia received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her M.P.A. from Harvard Kennedy School in 2002, and completed her B.A. summa cum laude in Sociology and Urban Policy from University of California, Los Angeles in 1998.
